Valued Employers
Land Search and Rescue is proud to partner with employers who support their staff to volunteer during search and rescue operations. The Valued Employer Programme (VEP) recognises and celebrates these organisations and individuals.
When you release staff to attend Search and Rescue Operations (SAROPs), you’re enabling critical community response — and that deserves acknowledgment.
As a Valued Employer, you’ll receive a:
- certificate of recognition
- digital badge to display online
- branded Land Search and Rescue pack (keep cup, bumper sticker, pens, and more)
- feature on the official Land Search and Rescue website.
Self-employed volunteers are also eligible to join the programme.

Thank you to all the Land Search and Rescue Valued Employers.
Land Search and Rescue’s Valued Employer Programme (VEP), recognises the vital role employers play in being part of the team responding to the lost, missing and injured. Without employers support we would find it more difficult to respond effectively. We talked to two of our VEP’s to find out why they joined the VEP Programme…
1. What motivates your company to support employees who volunteer with Land Search and Rescue?
Being part of a small rural community, we need to help and support one another. We are proud to have a Land Search and Rescue volunteer as part of our team, allowing us to provide practical support for the community in times of need.
2. How does backing Land Search and Rescue fit with what your company stands for?
We are a medical practice; our ethos is to promote and protect the health and welfare of our community. We are grateful for Land Search and Rescue’s assistance when a search for confused wandering patients is required.
3. Do you have any cool stories or successes from supporting Land Search and Rescue that you can share?
One of our GPs joined the Land Search and Rescue team in the 10km Nugget Multisport event. Waihi Land Search and Rescue had purchased a mule with funds generously donated by the Nugget Event Committee. We demonstrated how the mule is used by carrying a (non) injured team member around the course. It was a great opportunity to support the Nugget Event Committee and highlight the impact of their donation.
1. What motivates your company to support employees who volunteer with Land Search and Rescue.
PGG Wrightson (PGW) is proud to support Land Search and Rescue, as it is a vital service that helps everyone in New Zealand. We support team members who dedicate their time to training and responding to emergency situations because we believe in Land Search and Rescue’s mission to ensure everyone comes home safe.
2. How does backing Land Search and Rescue fit with what your company stands for?
As a nationwide business supporting the rural sector, PGW understands the importance of planning when visiting remote areas of New Zealand. Our teams across the motu are often visiting clients in isolated areas, and common activities of staff outside of work include tramping, hunting, and fishing—getting amongst the natural beauty of Aotearoa. We take preparedness and safety seriously, and strongly support building search and rescue skills in the regions we live, work, and explore.
3. Do you have any cool stories or successes from supporting Land Search and Rescue that you can share?
We value the services that Land Search and Rescue groups throughout New Zealand provide, so when we can, we aim to ensure staff who volunteer can attend call outs. One of our Technical Horticultural Representatives, Aaron Thompson is a Land Search and Rescue volunteer in Marlborough and has been involved for about 8 years.
He said “I’m really pleased that PGW is supporting Land Search and Rescue on a national level, as there are many synergies between the two organisations, especially the rural aspect. PGW has always been supportive towards my involvement with Land Search and Rescue. The timings of call outs can be a bit tricky since I’m in a sales role—it’s just a case of keeping up good comms with my manager Nick and letting him know what’s going on. Sometimes I just can’t go on a call out due to work timings and other commitments, but that’s fine as I know there are awesome people in our local group good to go.”
