Meet Seek – Our Land Search and Rescue Mascot
🐾 Who is Seek?
Seek was introduced to help Land Search and Rescue connect with a wider audience, highlighting the vital work of our volunteer responders who assist the lost, missing, and injured across Aotearoa New Zealand.
Designed in bright orange — the signature colour of Land Search and Rescue — Seek represents the energy, visibility, and hope that our volunteers bring to every mission.
🧡 Why a Dog?
Seek is a friendly, adventurous dog who creates an approachable, comforting connection with younger audiences, helping foster understanding about safety, prevention, and the essential work of Land Search and Rescue.
Where Can You Find Seek?
Seek makes a dominant appearance each May during our Searchlight campaigns, popping up in:
- Interactive online games
- Participating stores across the country
- Community events and activations
Throughout the year, Seek travels the length of Aotearoa New Zealand, visiting schools, community events, and volunteer gatherings — helping spread important safety messages and inspire a new generation of adventurers.
Seek and Outdoor Safety
Look closely! In Seek’s colouring competition and Giphy animations, you can spot essential outdoor safety items hidden in the artwork — like a:
- Personal Locator Beacon (PLB)
- Whistle
- Rain jacket
- Backpack
- Food and water
- Boots and hat
- Compass and map
- Sunscreen and first aid kit
At a local level, our Land Search and Rescue groups visit schools across New Zealand, often through programmes like “Clued Up Kids”, teaching tamariki about the importance of these items for safe adventures.

By introducing Seek, we brought new energy and purpose to Land Search and Rescue. With Seek by our side, we proudly marked our 91st anniversary in May 2024 and continue to shine a light on the lifesaving efforts of our incredible volunteer responders.
