Land Search & Rescue

Celebrating 91 years of heroic service at Land Search and Rescue with our “Searchlight” Campaign!

Searchlight Campaign

Dedicated to saving lives and providing vital support to the lost, missing, and injured, our organisation is embarking on this special initiative to commemorate our remarkable journey. From our humble beginnings in 1933 to our present-day impact across New Zealand, our volunteers have shown unparalleled dedication. With over 3,300 trained professionals operating in diverse terrains, our commitment to community safety is unwavering. Over the past year, we’ve dedicated over 102,627 hours to search and rescue activities, bringing 399 people to safety.

Throughout May 2024, join us in the “Searchlight” Campaign as we engage the community in various activities, including a thrilling mascot hunt in stores nationwide, with fantastic prizes up for grabs. Together, let’s shine a light on our volunteers.

Our unpaid professionals offer their specialist search and rescue skills free to the public 24/7 via the New Zealand Police and the Rescue Coordination Centre.

Join us in celebrating 91 years of service!

Why I volunteer…

“Just knowing that I have some training and experience that I can use in my community to help save people’s lives in the outdoors is a very humbling feeling. To say I am a member of Search and Rescue is pretty special and a lot of people thank us for what we do when it is brought up in conversation!” Millie Aitken, Team Leader

Valued Employers

Land Search and Rescue’s Valued Employer Programme recognises the vital role employers play in being part of the team responding to the lost, missing and injured. Without employers support we would find it more difficult to respond effectively.
