What LandSAR Does
Our mission statement is:
PROVIDING SEARCH AND RESCUE SUPPORT FOR THE LOST, MISSING AND INJURED.
We assist Police with Search & Rescue (SAR) operations suburban, urban, wilderness and rural areas including regional and forest parks, shorelines and caves. LandSAR helps to provide a safety net for the rare occasions when trips into the back country don’t go as planned. We work with the Mountain Safety Council (MSC) to educate everyone about safe practice in outdoor adventure.
Apart from maintaining a reasonable level of personal fitness and owning appropriate quality outdoor equipment and clothing, LandSAR members are committed to train regularly and attend to SAR operations, often at short notice.
Comprehensive training is given to each volunteer on search methods and tracking techniques, bush craft and outdoor skills, map and compass navigation, survival skills, river crossing and water travel, first aid, communications and technology, helicopter operations and safety issues, ropes and weather patterns and effects.
Our SAR operations are provided free of charge to the victim and the government.
